California’s workplace is always a dynamic environment where laws and regulations are concerned. Throw in more than a year of COVID-19, and you’ve got a real “stew” of changes and updates.
Numerous labor and employment laws passed by the California Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom took effect on Jan. 1, 2021. Additionally, new regulations by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) govern COVID-19 issues at the workplace. Finally, California's minimum wage and overtime exempt salary thresholds increased on Jan. 1, 2021.

Longtime employment law attorney, Li-An C. Leonard, will walk us through a discussion of the latest California workplace rules and regulations impacting both employers and workers.
Through her legal practice, Li-An guides clients through the maze of California and federal statutes and regulations which govern employers. She assists clients in complying with California and federal wage and hour laws. She also counsels clients on a wide range of employment matters, from hiring employees to terminating the employment relationship. Li-An co-chairs Duckor Spradling Metzger & Wynne’s Employment Practice group.
Li-An holds a JD from the University of San Diego School of Law and a BA in psychology from Point Loma College.
